Away-day ride Cowleaze Wood car park to Great Hampden
Sunday, 15 July 2018 - 10:30am
Ride or Event Navigation
Main details

The Chilterns – Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. But be aware – the Chilterns is also an area of outstanding hills. The 10.30am start is at Cowleaze Wood car park (free), which is a 30-40 minute drive from Oxford. We will ride straight to an early lunch at The Hampden Arms, Great Hampden. It’s been 3 years since we tackled Smalldean Lane (number 12 in the link), so it’s time for a revisit, albeit with a shorter route than in 2015.
May finish early 2:30, depending on the football!
Ride report
Smalldean Lane felt a touch steeper than 3 years ago! The Garmin showed 19%, so it doesn’t quite get 2 arrows from Ordnance Survey. Kingston Hill comes at the end of the ride and includes a (thankfully brief) section of 18%. Made easier by an ice cream stop and the knowledge that it was the final effort of the day.
