Away-day ride Wantage and Chilton Foliat
Sunday, 13 October 2019 - 9:45am
Ride or Event Navigation
Please book lunch before 6pm Friday
It’s a very short ride to coffee in the centre of Wantage but you will need to stock up before Chain Hill. Then it’s over the Downs and alongside the river Kennet before we head back north at Hungerford via the village of Eddington.
Ride report
Began to brighten up towards the end, but flooded roads everywhere. Several riders expressed a wish for disk brakes when traditional rim brakes had little effect on the descents. The forecast wet start meant that we came well prepared to cope with the early downpours and it turned out to be a great day in the North Wessex Downs, with excellent – if pricey – food at the Wheatchief. Unanimous decision: let’s do this ride again in the summer!
