Boxing Day Tweed Ride
Wednesday, 26 December 2018 - 10:30am
Ride or Event Navigation
Come and join a FLAT, short non-challenging (unless you have over-indulged!) ride.
If possible, raid that wardrobe or visit a charity shop to get hold of some tweed (but just come anyway if not) and dig out the oldest (roadworthy!) bike in your shed/garage. A chance to chat and laugh and end up in the pub. (Route subject to change depending on conditions)
Ride report
Weird cyclists on weird bikes are part of Oxford culture and no one batted an eye as these 12 made their way to the Broad Street meeting point. Once assembled, however, it was a different matter. Tourists queuing up to take pictures of what they imagined to be an ancient Oxford tradition.
Not so! The tweed ride was the first of what may indeed one day become a tradition. Meanwhile, the sales assistant in the Fine Woollens & Tweeds shop was delighted to see this resurgence of the old fashioned look (see photo).
