New Year’s Day ride 2017

Sunday, 1 January 2017 - 9:30am

Meet Broad Street 9:30 as usual, or ride straight to Kennington for 10am (see further details below)

Coffee in Kennington at 10am and a “bring and share lunch” (also in Kennington) after a short ride of about 35-40km (22-25 miles), starting around 11am.

Join the ride as usual in Broad Street or ride directly to Kennington to arrive 10am for coffee (for directions, phone/email as below).

For food arrangements, please phone James on 01865 327969 or email rosey.hollinrake@btinternet.com so we can coordinate a reasonable balance of savoury/sweet dishes. Some vegetarian and gluten-free dishes might be helpful too.

Ride report

We were grateful  that the pre-lunch ride was planned as a “short” ride. The weather forecast was unerringly accurate: persistent rain for the whole day with temperatures around 3°. The day started with the 3 Cs (coffee, cake and chat) followed by the bring and share lunch which more than made up for the cold and the wet. In keeping with the Christmas spirit, 10 of us stayed to play “Celebrity salad bowl”, which, like everything else on that day, was homemade: it’s a game guaranteed to break any ice that may remain. Our thanks to James and Rosey for their hospitality.
