Saturday off-road ride Charlbury Shipton-u-Wychwood

Barbara and I rode this on Boxing Day last year. It was a great route but tough in the mud. It should be much better after all the recent dry weather but a gravel bike is needed as the minimum. We will be lunching in Shipton u Wychwood and if you arrive early you can get a coffee and cake from the Charlbury Community Centre where there a few all day parking spaces too. Or park on the road leading to the Community Centre making sure not to block drives and no parking on pavements.
Ride report
It was a beautiful sunny day for our first off-road ride of the year. We did a route that had been boggy and very muddy on Boxing Day and this time it was bone dry and the sun shone all day. There were 5 of us including Richard who had managed to put his bike back together after its journey home from Australia – he has his priorities right!
We had lunch at the Wychwood Arms in Shipton-u-Wychwood and sat outside in the sunshine. The route wasn’t too overgrown but it waited for Sue to take her protective sleeves off before having a short section with brambles and nettles and left her bloodied in several places. Richard had his brand new jacket ripped too! But that was the only real incident; it is a really beautiful route that I would recommend to anyone to try in dry to dryish conditions.
