Sunday ride to Aston and Eastleach

Going west to Eastleach Turville, with a chance to see the stone slab clapper footbridge which crosses the river Leach and which joins a footpath into the nearby village of Eastleach Martin.

Ride report

A day of really fresh weather, warm in the sun, a tad cool in the shade. After a tyre pump stop on Botley Rd that delayed the inevitable, we had a puncture stop at the top of Cumnor Hill. We had a fair head wind all the way to coffee at Aston Pottery, and all the way to lunch. After Clanfield we had miles of narrow country lanes with lots of warm sun and almost no traffic, it made for a lovely ride.

There was a mis-communication/vaguely written menu at lunch, so we were allowed to pay our £8 for the “Roast beef” we had ordered, but were served the £23.50 beef sirloin. The menu should have stated the £8 option was the child’s menu, but that was not mentioned on the menu. Julian had the “small fish and chips” (unstated as child menu), he saw the size on an ajoining table, and deemed it good.

After lunch we had more quiet country lanes but with a tail wind. We deviated off route onto a closed quiet road which avoided going through the middle of Carterton. We returned to Oxford via Eynsham and the A40 cycle track.
