Sunday ride to Aston and Witney

Sunday, 18 February 2024 - 9:30am

Fairly familiar route to Aston for coffee then looping through downtown Carterton and Brize to Witney where there is a wide and free choice for lunch. Then home through North Leigh and Long Hanborough to the A40.

Ride report

Eight of us set out from Broad Street in what we thought would be fairly clement weather for the time of year, an illusion to be dashed by the time we got to Botley Road where we were greeted with a very heavy dose of drizzle propelled by a brisk headwind. The drizzle eased quite quickly, the headwind, not so much and short showers followed us all the way to Aston Pottery. The wind seemed to ease as we made our way on what became a pleasant ride through Carterton and on towards Witney for lunch; the only real impact of the weather was the need to avoid a few deep and wide puddles en route. Lunch was coffee and a toastie or similar at Coffee#1 before an enjoyable ride through New Yatt, North Leigh etc on the way home.
