Sunday ride to Benson and Checkendon

Sunday, 10 November 2013 - 9:30am

Ride report

Another sunny Sunday. Thirteen to coffee and 10 continued to lunch. Our route to the Waterfront Cafe in Benson was blocked by a Remembrance Sunday parade, the only alternative being a very long one-way road. The roads south east of Wallingford are delightful – plenty of choice along the narrowest of country lanes: those with grass growing along the middle, shunned by motorists but which we cyclists claim as ours. The Black Horse at Checkendon was as we remembered: good beer, sandwiches only, no credit cards and a brick wall masquerading as a men’s toilet that would make a French pissoir seem like luxury. Unforgettable, as always.
