Ride report
Eight riders met on a morning somewhat cooler than we had been used to in the current heat wave. We decided to ride through the centre of Abingdon rather than follow the bumpy route via Thrupp lake.
We hadn’t used Root One as a coffee stop for some time and were taken aback to find that a capucino now costs £2.79. By way of compensation, James’ enormous piece of cake was a bargain, and James is not known for biting off more than he can chew, as we watched in astonishment and admiration.
The ride up to Cookley Green is always interesting: if you spin and ride steadily, you barely notice the climb, but racing is a different matter. On this occasion, we rode steadily. Few riders are brave enough to resist a touch of brake on the fast descent into Watlington, where the garden of The Chequers was shady and welcoming.
