Sunday ride to Long Crendon and Bicester

Sunday, 24 September 2023 - 9:30am

Out to the Base Café in Long Crendon and then going mostly north along country lanes until we get to Bicester. Lunch will be had Bicester Garden Centre. Let’s hope the Christmas decorations are not for sale yet!

Ride report

Earlier in the week, the forecast had been lovely but the day started with a little drizzle and possibly causing one member to cancel their lunch booking. We cycled to Long Crendon picking up Clare in Worminghall where we had coffee in the Base Coffee shop where they had reserved a table for us. We were joined by Niall’s daughter and grandchildren who had also cycled there but only a mile. The ride to Bicester was good apart from when I took a wrong turn in Bicester. Jon took us on a slightly different route so we didn’t have to retrace our steps. Just before the garden centre, John S went off piste on a gravel track to avoid some of the bike crossings and gained a puncture! During lunch Alistair spotted a piano across the room and went over and played it for us; such a treat! After lunch we rode home into an increasing headwind.
