Sunday ride to Ramsden and Chipping Norton

Sunday, 13 October 2013 - 9:30am

Ride report

It started at about 6pm on the Saturday evening. We knew it was going to happen so it came as no surprise: the first really wet Sunday in many many months. So why did 2 riders turn up (double points by the way for turning up in the first place) without overshoes? and without a hood to prevent the rain finding its way finally down the back of their necks? Perhaps because cyclists are eternal optimists. You have to be, to mix it on the road with vehicles weighing 1500 kilos against our paltry 10 kilos, to hurtle down hills routinely at speeds of 50km/hour and often a lot faster, with little or no protection. And no defence at all against animals that, hearing no motor vehicles approaching, deem it safe to venture out into the middle of the road, into the path of a speeding cyclist, whose exuberant grin now turns into a grimace of wide-eyed panic.
But where was I? Ah yes, coffee at Ramsden. Unanimous decision to forget about the Blue Boar in Chipping Norton and instead to find the quickest route home and into a hot shower.
