Sunday ride to Stratton Audley and Chearsley

Sunday, 30 April 2023 - 9:30am

Please book lunch by 6pm on the Friday

You will deserve some cake after a longish ride to coffee at Stratton Audley Barn and last time there was an astonishing selection. We will then ride south east to one of our regular lunch stops at Chearsley. With luck we can eat in their garden.

Ride report

An eventful ride for several reasons! 19 people had booked lunch which is the largest number for some time. We set off from Broad Street and before we reached Wood Eaton, Martin and Pauline’s tandem had a puncture. This was their 4th puncture in a week and not all on the same bike. They fixed it swiftly and soon caught up with the second group. We reached Stratton Audley Barn in good time despite being a bit held up by a tractor rally to find that it was no longer open on Sundays: I just hadn’t thought to check! Fortunately a bit of local knowledge from Clare and Jon meant we stopped in Marsh Gibbon at a new shop advertising coffee to go. Sadly this feature hadn’t been installed yet, so several of us had chilled coffee in cans and snacks. The rest of the ride was uneventful and we reached the Bell in Chearsley in good time. It’s a great pub which always gives us a good welcome and serves large numbers of hungry cyclists swiftly. The return home went without further mishap.
