Sunday ride to Thame and Ludgershall

Sunday, 1 September 2013 - 9:30am

Ride report

Having climbed up Muswell Hill a few weeks ago, this time we decided to race down the same hill. But we kept the speed to below 60k, as the surface is not brilliant and cars can come round the bends on the wrong side of the road. The climb up to Ashendon from the south also has a lot going for it (although it’s actually steeper from the north west). Just thought I’d mention that in case you are in search of good hills to test the legs. The route didn’t quite go to plan as the road from Westcott to Wotton Underwood isn’t really a road at all and we were faced with a choice. Either backtrack up the 14% climb to Ashendon or continue on and ride a couple of miles on the A41. We chose the latter and arrived at the Bull and Butcher at ETA + 1 minute. It’s uncanny how often our ride average is 19-20k (see the Garmin Connect link). Lovely weather and plenty of undulating hills. We arrived home feeling we deserved the slabs of chocolate cake (see photo) and roast lunches: the Garmin showed 2,300 calories – but we know the Garmin lies.
