Sunday ride to Watlington (group 2)

Sunday, 16 May 2021 - 10:00am

A rural ride with only one serious climb at Swyncombe and coffee at the Spire & Spoke pub at Watlington and home via Stadthampton.

Ride report

Four of us met at the start, but Iraj was only there to say hello, as he wasn’t feeling well enough to do the whole ride. We set off into the wind, and glad to get onto the smaller roads after Newington. The long rise after Ewelme wasn’t too bad, with the reward of some lovely bluebell woods at the top. A run along the top of the Chilterns took us tantalisingly close to the food stop in Watlington, but we kept on as far as the A40. We had a lovely run down Stockenchurch Hill, and heading to Postcombe, again ignoring signs for Watlington. Our arrival for lunch coincided with group 1 having a photo call before setting off. We enjoyed our last legally “must be outside” Sunday food stop before making the home straight past Chalgrove to Oxford.

The map is an embedded link from Ride with GPS. You can zoom in to see the route in as much detail as you like. For example, you can zoom in (using the + sign) to see exactly where the start is.
